Deadpool 2 Star Zazie Beetz On The Controversy Surrounding Her Casting As Domino

Zazie Beetz might have done an excellent job playing 20^th Century Fox's new Domino in Deadpool 2, however fans were pretty skeptical about the actress taking on the role when the studio first announced her casting in the Deadpool sequel.

Now, speaking with fans at a panel at this year's ACE Comic Con (via ComicBook.com), Beetz addresses the controversy that surrounded her when word came out that she had just been cast as Deadpool 2's Domino.

While the actress seemed to have a great run in Atlanta, fans were a bit hesitant about the idea of seeing a Black actress take on the role of Domino. A mutant who can tinker with probability and luck, Neena Thurman is traditionally a white woman with black markings around her eye.

Deadpool 2 decided to flip the color scheme, instead saying that Domino had some sort of psoriasis that gave her a white marking over her eye.

During the panel, the actress decided to take on the questions of the fanbase, explaining that she understood what fans felt when she had been announced as Domino.

"I also understood that. I think about my own kind of associations I have with my own characters that I loved in my childhood, and you definitely...particularly visually have an image that you're attached to, "Beetz told fans. "So I understood that part. So I get if you feel, or if people have felt detached from my version. I more balk at if people become rude online or something like that, but I have to say it hasn't been too much of an issue. I've been blessed in that department."

While fans were a bit hesitant to accept her at first, Beetz proved herself as a very capable and enjoyable Domino, swaying the fanbase to her favor. Deadpool 2 did pretty well in cinemas, and fans couldn't help but gush about how much they loved Beetz as Domino in the comic book movie.
