DC Comics is Bringing Back Ryan “The Atom” Choi Back With One Shot

DC has a lot of surprises to kick-start the new year. The most predominant among these surprises are the comic projects.

Just recently, Geoff Johns teased that he will be going back to drawing comics as part of the things to look forward to in 2017. Now AV Club has learned that Ryan "The Atom" Choi will be making a comeback in the franchise.

While he has already disappeared in the New 52 but then brought back via the DC Rebirth, his latest foray into the DC franchise is by way of a one-shot.

Come February of this year, the Justice of League of America will have a series of four one-shots that will put to the tale four of the members of his JLA. And The Atom will be the first one in the series.

According to the source, Choi's one-shot, dubbed JLA: Atom, will follow the story of Ryan during his first years in Ivy University. Another known superhero that we've been seeing in The Flash is Professor Ray Palmer, The Atom superhero.

In essence, JLA: Atom is more a history or an origins story for Ryan. It will give fans a peek into his passion for the sciences, his family life, his acclimation in a new environment and country, and eventually, how the seeds of his superhero identity were planted.

The quick preview (via the link above) shows off the two sides to Ryan—the confidence of an alter-ego and the awkwardness of his real life in a new city and a new environment.

The other three characters to receive one-shots include The Ray, Killer Frost, and Vixen. JLA: Atom will be released in February.
