Darren Aronofsky Didn’t Just Love Man of Steel – He Also Wants To Try Directing Superman

It looks like the critically acclaimed and controversial filmmaker Darren Aronofsky's also interested in making a Superman movie.

Going on an interview with CinePop to help promote his upcoming psychological horror experimental film starring Jennifer Lawrence, Mother!, Aronofsky was asked which superhero properly he'd most like to work in, and to no surprise, the director's answer was Superman.

There had been rumors before that the filmmaker was in line to direct Man of Steel and though Superman's one of the biggest characters in comic book history, Aronofsky still thinks that he can put a new spin to the hero.

"I mean, you know, Superman would always be interesting. But they're already deep into reinventing him, so that's not going to happen for a long time."

However, that doesn't mean that the filmmaker doesn't like what the DC Extended Universe is doing with Henry Cavill's Superman.

"I thought Zack [Snyder] was a great choice [for Man of Steel], and I loved his Watchmen movie. I thought it was great. I thought that as a fan of the comic, you couldn't hope for a better interpretation. I liked the orthodoxy of it."

Still, now that the Warner Bros. has mapped out most of the DCEU, it's unlikely that Aronofsky can get to join the franchise and make his own Superman movie. Maybe if the studio made an Elseworld movie for the Man of Steel.
