Daisy Ridley Says Star Wars: The Last Jedi Proves Rey Isn’t The Center Of New Trilogy

Rey might be the main protagonist of Lucasfilm's new set of Star Wars films, but according to Daisy Ridley, the story of the studio's new trilogy is so much bigger than the Force-sensitive Jakku orphan.

The Force Awakens might have revealed that Rey was the Jedi that fans could build their various theories on, however, The Last Jedi threw everyone off by confirming that the character wasn't a fatalistic "chosen one" like Anakin was or Luke. Though many hoped that Rey was the reincarnated version of Anakin or the daughter of Obi-Wan Kenobi, The Last Jedi revealed that the Jakku orphan was nothing but the daughter of drunken junkers. Rey was simply strong with the Force.

Sitting down to speak with Hertfordshire Life (via Sleemo), Ridley says that The last Jedi proves that Rey isn't the center of the trilogy but part of a much larger story.

"This is where it proves that I am not the centre," Ridley told the publication. "It's not based around my character – it's so much bigger than me, that's an understatement… I'm like a cog in the machine."

Though some fans are largely unhappy that The Last Jedi subverted expectations and toyed around with the Star Wars formula of the monomyth, we're excited to see where the story's going to take us when Star Wars: Episode IX hits the big screen next year.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi is currently screening in cinemas.
