Daisy Ridley Responds To Star Wars Theory, Says Episode VIII is Darker

Star Wars actress Daisy Ridley had a big night Sunday night at the 2016 MTV Movie Awards, where she won the award for Breakthrough Performance for her role in The Force Awakens (which also won the award for Movie of the Year).

At the awards ceremony, she talked to MTV Josh Horowitz about Star Wars: Episode VIII and the latest rumor that emerged after the release of the first Rogue One: A Star Wars Story trailer.

In response to the theory that Jyn Erso (Felicity Jones) is Rey's mother, she said, "I'm not being funny you guys, but just because she's white and got brown hair… it doesn't mean she's my mom."

She also said that she doesn't think it's a big deal who Rey's parents are, "I think the amazing thing about [Episode VII] is that Finn and Rey don't come from anywhere, and they find a place. So to me, it's funny that people think it's so important because I don't really think it is."

When Ridley was asked if Rey would become a Jedi in Episode VIII, which she described as being "darker" than The Force Awakens, she said, "I don't know if I am a Jedi… I don't think I am. We've had this debate as to whether Leia is because she uses her Force powers. Just because she's not like, oh I'm going on an adventure like Luke doesn't make her any less Forceful"

Star Wars: Episode VIII is scheduled to hit theaters on Dec. 15, 2017.
