Could Marvel Be Debuting R-Rated Brand With Blade And Deadpool Movies?

Marvel may have been keeping to Disney's family-friendly tradition with its PG-13 entries, but now speculation has it that the studio may be gearing up to introduce R-Rated films into its Banner.

According to Cosmic Book News, it's possible that we may very well get to see a new R-Rated brand unleashed in Phase 5 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe now that Marvel is planning to work on its Blade reboot. The Daywalker's film series has always been rather risqué in nature, so it would make sense if Marvel were to release the new Blade movie as a Rated-R entry just like the original films.

Not only that, but there's also the case for Deadpool. Now that Disney has completed its acquisition of 21st Century Fox and the studio's film and television assets, the Mickey Mouse House promises to make use of the Merc with a Mouth, a brassy mutant whose films have always been R-Rated.

Though Marvel hasn't made any announcements regarding Deadpool's appearance in the MCU, Merc with a Mouth star Ryan Reynolds has teased Deadpool's potential involvement in Phase 5 of the franchise. If Marvel really were to work on a new Deadpool film, that would mean an R-Rated movie – after all Disney did promise to keep its hands off Wade Wilson's film series.

"We do believe there is room for the Fox properties to exist without significant Disney influence over the nature of the content," Disney CEO Bob Iger revealed during a Disney Investors Conference. "Meaning that we see that there is certainly popularity amongst Marvel fans for the R-rated Deadpool films, for instance, we are going to continue in that business, and there might be room for more of that."

Could we really be getting an R-Rated banner in the MCU? Let's wait and see.

Phase 4 of the franchise kicks off with Black Widow which premieres on May 1, 2020.
