Colin Trevorrow Gives An Update On Star Wars IX

Though fans are waiting for the release of Star Wars: The Last Jedi this year, Colin Trevorrow is hard at work on the last movie in the sequel trilogy, Star Wars Episode IX. During Cinemacon 2017, MTV was lucky enough to catch up to the Jurassic World director and ask him for an update.

When asked about the Episode IX script, Trevorrow said that he and his team are "throwing 110 percent of our souls into it." He also joked, "There will be nothing left of me when I'm done." If JJ Abrams was felt that he was under a lot of pressure to deliver The Force Awakens, there's no imagining what Trevorrow is thinking when he has to cap the sequel trilogy off.

He also adds that he's looking at the third movie "in the context of three films, six films, nine films, and one film. It's a lot." Knowing how nitpicky and intense the Star Wars fandom can be, Trevorrow will have to deliver one spectacular film; a hard thing to do considering that everyone expects the third movie in every franchise to be the worst.

Even if the story of the Skywalkers ends with Episode IX, fans can still expect more standalone films in the same vein as Rogue One. We still have the Han Solo movie to look forward to next year, plus a possible Obi-Wan Kenobi spin-off and a Boba Fett film.

Star Wars Episode IX is set to come out on May 23, 2019.
