Cinnabon Deletes Carrie Fisher Tweet, Apologizes After Online Backlash

Cinnabon, a company specialized in cinnamon rolls and other baked goods, apologized for a tweet posted yesterday that caused thousands of Star Wars fans to backlash online.

Just hours after Fisher died, Cinnabon tweeted what many thought was inappropriate and insensitive about her death. Cinnabon's tweet that was already deleted wrote "RIP Carrie Fisher, you'll always have the best buns in the galaxy." The tweet was accompanied by an image of a cinnamon roll surrounded by cinnamon that had been designed to look like Fisher, with the roll replacing Fisher's popular hairstyle as Princess Leia in the Star Wars films. The image was recycled from May 4, with new text to acknowledge the death of Fisher.

The backlash quickly came, and Cinnabon immediately deleted the tweet, but Twitter users had already captured screenshots.

The company apologized for the tweet, clarifying that it was meant as a tribute for Fisher, but saying that it was offensive.

Fisher's final performance will be seen in Star Wars: Episode VIII, which is set to release in theaters on December 17, 2017.
