Catch Honest Trailer for the Purge Trilogy Before Watching The First Purge

Today marks the release of The First Purge, but before you catch the movie, recap on the first three films with an Honest Trailer from ScreenJunkies.

Get ready for Purge Night, a new American holiday where all crimes are legal, but everyone goes straight for murder; in an annual free-for-all that you either treat as Halloween for psychopaths or an excuse to throw a really. boring. dinner party.

Though on the surface the movies seem like b-level gore fests, there is actually a lot of interesting social commentary going on for the Purge films. As the series progresses, we follow the story of individuals from the middle class, all the way to the poor, and we watch how they handle defending themselves during the Purge.

I’ll admit, the movies aren’t for everyone, but they do offer some interesting commentary amidst all of the creative ways people are trying to kill each other. With The First Purge, the film aims to show us the beginning of the Purge holiday and how it was actually started.

Here’s the official synopsis:

To push the crime rate below one percent for the rest of the year, the New Founding Fathers of America (NFFA) test a sociological theory that vents aggression for one night in one isolated community. But when the violence of oppressors meets the rage of the marginalized, the contagion will explode from the trial-city borders and spread across the nation.

The First Purge is now out in theaters.
