Captain Marvel’s Audience Score At An Alarming Low Thanks To Review Bombs

It's barely been a day since Captain Marvel's release but it looks like the film's Audience Score on Rotten Tomatoes has just tanked to an alarmingly low rating.

Rotten Tomatoes just recently put up Captain Marvel's Audience Score, and Brie Larson's debut into the Marvel Cinematic Universe now sits at a depressingly low 36% score (among 4,567 users) – a huge dip when compared to the review aggregator's professional critic score which comes up to about 81%.

While this might be rather concerning, it is very possible that Captain Marvel's overwhelmingly low audience score may have been caused by trolls review bombing the Marvel entry. Inspecting the negative reviews further, one can see that all the hate comes from new accounts that have Captain Marvel as their first review. Other empty accounts have also been leaving negative reviews for other female-led movies like Oceans 8 and the Ghostbusters reboot by Paul Feig.

Of course, this isn't the first time that Captain Marvel has been seemingly review bombed on Rotten Tomatoes. Last week, trolls also targeted the film's "Want to See" score on the site, leaving the review tab with complaints about the film focusing on a female-superhero and about the film pushing a "social justice warrior" agenda.

Rotten Tomatoes soon after changed its audience score policy, making the feature inaccessible until each upcoming film's release. Now, we're wondering what the site might do about these trolls bringing down Captain Marvel's audience score to an all-time low.

Captain Marvel is currently screening in cinemas.
