What's At Stake for the Bok Family in Marriage

The matriarchal figure in any family in K-dramas usually instigates when they want their children to get married and leave their homes.

In the case of The Atypical Family, though, Bok Man-Heum (played by Ko Du-Shim) had a different motive in mind.

The matriarch of the family attempted plenty of things to get whichever Bok sibling married. So much so that she gambled whoever gets married first would receive the incentive of inheriting their building.

See, the Bok family isn't just any normal family. They have superpowers that have hugely benefited their family for a long time, until one day, they lose them.

Pushing them to get married is what brings Bok Man-Heum hope that they would regain their powers through love or a different form of happiness.

Why Did They Lose Their Powers in the First Place?

The matriarch has the ability to see the future, while the sister, Bok Dong-Hee (Soo-Hyun) can fly. The main character Bok Gwi-Ju (Jang Ki-Yong) can travel back in time.

However, ever since the family encountered modern-day problems such as bulimia, insomnia, and addiction to smartphones, their powers have unfortunately disappeared.

But don't let this mislead you into thinking that the matriarch is up to no-good manipulation. After all, she did get to dream that Da-Hae (Chun Woo-Hee) would wear their family ring one day as Gwi-Ju's potential wife.

Little did they know, the matriarch was right all along.

Although Gwi-Ju had been adamant about not having any interest in getting remarried, his first fake date with Da-Hae ended pleasantly, especially after she had saved him once again.

The end of episode 2 teases Gwi-Ju slowly regaining his powers. For starters, he was able to travel back in time and hold Da-Hae's hand in the memory, with Da-Hae being able to see him, too.
