Black Panther Concept Art Shows Shuri Donning The Uniform

Black Panther is a huge hit for a variety of reasons. From the fascinating world of Wakanda to its compelling storyline, and great characters, there is so much to like about the MCU's best film to date. The film also had some of the best female supporting characters in the MCU, with Lupita Nyong'o's Nakia and Danai Gurira's Okoye getting significant development throughout the story.

One character who really stood out though was Letitia Wright's Shuri, whose tech-savvy nature and witty comebacks instantly made her a fan-favorite. Comic book fans know that she dons the Black Panther alias for a while and even becomes Queen of Wakanda, so fans want to see her wear the costume in the future.

It turns out that we almost got that in the film.

The film's art book companion has an image of Shuri wearing the Black Panther uniform, whilst equipped with the gauntlets she used against Killmonger in the film's climax. It seems like there were plans to have her don the uniform for the fight but not actually take up the mantle. This is fine since T'Challa's story isn't over yet but it would have been a nice reference for comic book fans.

Shuri's Black Panther Costume from the Art Book

Marvel movies have done these references before. In Captain America: The First Avenger, we see Bucky wield Cap's shield and his gun for a short while, a weapon combination he used when he donned the mantle after Steve's then death.

Will we see Shuri as Black Panther in the future? Hopefully, not at the cost of T'Challa's current arc. Black Panther is now showing in theaters.
