Birds of Prey Takes Place in a Gotham City with No Batman

The reveals just keep coming for DCEU's Birds of Prey. Yesterday we got news that Huntress and Black Canary have already been cast, now we have an update on the setting of the entire film.

As per Deadline, Birds of Prey will take place in a Gotham City that ‘isn't protected by Batman.' There's also said to be this line in the script which says that Batman hasn't been seen in Gotham for two years. Counting that this movie will come out two years after Justice League, it would be interesting to see what Bruce Wayne has been up to ever since the arrival of Steppenwolf.

So far, the cast for Birds of Prey includes Margot Robbie (Harley Quinn), Mary Elizabeth Winstead (Huntress), and Jurnee Smollett-Bell (Black Canary). We have yet to get news on who is playing Det. Renee Montoya and the young Cassandra Cain. It's also possible that Barbara Gordon will be making an appearance, but she won't be suiting up as Batgirl.

After Justice League, I kind of just want to see the entire series move forward. Since the last DCEU film, the MCU has already released three movies pushing the story along. We have to wait till December to see the aftermath of JL with Aquaman—and that movie takes place mostly in Atlantis!

As for Batman in Birds of Prey, I hope his current status in the universe is addressed with Matt Reeves' solo film. It's not sure what place in the DCEU timeline his story is going to take, but seeing that Wonder Woman is already doing two period pieces, I would like a movie that would keep the ball rolling.

Birds of Prey is set for a release on Feb. 7, 2020.
