Birds of Prey: Set Photos Reveal Ewan McGregor’s Black Mask

Ewan McGregor is best known for his role as Obi-Wan Kenobi in the Star Wars prequels, but he's going to try his hand at villainy with DCEU's Birds of Prey. The movie is currently in production, and some set photos have shown us a look at McGregor in character as Roman Sionis a.k.a. The Black Mask.

Check him out:

In the comics, Black Mask was a mob boss with the distinct feature of having a black mask permanently attached to his face. In the set photo we just see McGregor wearing part of the mask a la Green Hornet; no doubt we're going to see him horribly disfigured by the end of the film.

With the movie said to be Rated R, I'm kind of hoping that they make the Mask as despicable as he is in the comics. Though he is just a regular mob boss, he goes to levels of sadism that will make your skin crawl. In one comic, he drives Catwoman's sister crazy by murdering her husband in front of her then force-feeding her his eyeballs.

It's worth noting that Victor Zsasz is also in this movie. Pretty sure his sadistic tendencies will line up nicely with the Black Mask. After all, this guy marks his skin for every person that he's killed. Who better to partner up with a sadist than an insane masochist?

Catch Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) in theaters Feb. 7, 2020.
