Bird Box Finds Itself In the Middle Of A New Controversy

Sandra Bullock's Bird Box has been nothing short of controversial. While the film has proven to be one of the most successful streaming movies on Netflix, Bird Box has been a source of contention after fans started imitating the film in the dangerous "Bird Box Challenge," one that's sparked concern from netizens around the globe.

Now, it seems like the film continues to sit at the center of debate with many criticizing the film for featuring actual footage of a real-life disaster.

According to a new report by Entertainment Weekly, Netflix's popular horror movie has gathered criticism over the use of real-life footage of the Lac-Megantic rail tragedy of Canada. For those who aren't familiar with the tragedy, a train carrying crude oil derailed right in the middle of the town Lac-Megantic. The crash resulted in explosions that leveled most of the community's downtown area and reports say the tragedy resulted in the loss of 27 lives. The footage of the disaster was featured during a montage of society being torn apart during the opening sequence of the film and fans couldn't help but feel disappointed over the insensitivity of the production.

However, Bird Box isn't the only film to use the footage. Netflix's sci-fi series Travelers also used footage of the Lac-Megantic tragedy. However, the production company behind the series has promised to remove the footage from the show and refrain from using it in any future projects.
