Batman Anime Debuting In New York Comic-Con

Few things are cooler than anime and Batman, so mixing the two should lead to something for both fanbases. That seems to be the logic Warner Bros is embracing since they are planning to unveil a new anime called Batman Ninja. Since it is being distributed by Warner Bros Home Entertainment it's easy to assume that this will be straight to home release like the other DC animated movies.

While it hasn't been officially announced by Warner Bros, the New York Comic-Conwebsite has details on a panel that will showcase the movie. Interestingly enough, the character designer is Takashi Okazaki, who is most well known for his work on Afro Samurai. It will be interesting to see how he reimagines Batman and some of his other supporting characters.

Here is the full press release:

Warner Bros. Japan and Warner Bros. Home Entertainment team for an eye-popping addition to the Batman animated legacy withBatman Ninja, a spectacular, all-new anime film coming in 2018. Panelists will include directorJumpei Mizusaki, character designerTakashi Okazaki, screenwriterKazuki Nakashima, English-language screenwritersLeo Chu & Eric Garciaand some potential special guests.

This isn't Batman's first time in the realms of anime. Fans might remember an anthology film called Batman: Gotham Knight which was released at around the same time Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight was showing in theaters. Gotham Knight had six stories that were animated by Japanese studios, with each tale having a unique anime-style. One of these costumes ended up being included in Batman: Arkham Knight as a WBPlay bonus.

The Batman Ninja panel of New York Comic-Con will take place on October 5 from 12:45 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. Eastern time. Expect more details there, maybe even a trailer or some image stills if we're lucky. DC is also planning to release a Batman: Gotham by Gaslight animated film, based on the prestige one-shot by Brian Augustyn and Hellboy artist Mike Mignola.
