Avengers: Endgame Finally Passes Avatar’s Original Theatrical Run

It looks like Avengers: Endgame is making major strides in dethroning Avatar as the highest grossing film of all time.

It's taken the film a while, but the second entry in Joe and Anthony Russo's two-part Avengers movie has finally surpassed Avatar's total box office – well, part of it, anyway.

After nearly two months of screening in cinemas, Endgame has managed to pass Avatar at the box office. But only for the epic science fiction film's original theatrical run. As of this writing, Endgame has managed to rake in $2,749,603,966 at the box office – a little over Avatar's original $ 2,749,064,328 haul.

However, the film still has a bit to go to beat Avatar once and for all. For those who don't remember, Avatar was re-released in cinemas for an extended run, generating additional box office revenue which was counted in the film's final, record-setting gross total.

Marvel just has to rake in $40 million more to beat Avatar's final gross. While that might seem a little difficult considering the fact that Endgame is in its last few days in cinemas, Marvel has also decided to re-release the film, this time with an incentive for Marvel fans everywhere. Hoping to beat Avatar's record, Marvel has decided to rerelease Endgame with extra minutes of footage, drawing in fans who can't help but want to see all of the extra scenes that come with the rerelease.

Not only will fans get to see deleted scenes at the end of the film, but they'll also get a special tribute to Stan the Man, as well as a post-credits sequence that holds some sort of surprise.

Avengers: Endgame is currently screening in cinemas. The film is set for rerelease next weekend.
