Avengers 4 Screenwriters Promise Bigger Roles For Black Widow, Captain America And More

Avengers: Infinity War might have just recently made its way to the big screen, however, it seems like fans are already dying to know more about the film's sequel, hoping that characters that got less screen time in the film get bigger roles to play in Avengers 4.

While characters like Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner), Ant-Man (Paul Rudd) and the Wasp (Evangeline Lilly) were all benched from Infinity War, fans also noticed that characters like Captain America (Chris Evans) and Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) didn't have that much time in the spotlight as they'd hope for.

Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, Avengers: Infinity War writers Stephen McFeely and Christopher Markus decided to open up about their work on Avengers 4, explaining why heroes like Natasha had less presence in the first installment in Marvel's two-part Avengers movie.

"Some of the people, when you weigh up who you are seeing, seem to take a little bit of a back seat in this one. When we did crack them, what we realized was they had far more potential in the movie coming next year, just in terms of how their character would be tested by the story," Markus told the publication.

According to the screenwriter, they had less to explore about Steve and Natasha in this film, teasing that there would be a lot more in Avengers 4.

"I'm not telling you what the story is. I will say there is less Steve Rogers and Natasha (Scarlett Johansson) than you might expect in this movie [Infinity War]," the writer elaborated. "Because they are such hard-bitten people, when a threat comes, they stand there and they take the threat. They don't crack. They don't whimper. They don't start talking about all their failed opportunities. So, there isn't that much to explore, especially when you don't have a lot of time. But there's a lot later."

Markus' explanation echoes the comments directors Joe and Anthony Russo gave before the premiere of the film. During Infinity War's marketing, fans worried to no end about the fate of Clint Barton, Scott Lang and Hope Van Dyne. The Russo brothers assuaged the fanbase's concerns a few weeks before the film hit cinemas, saying that they had to balance out screen time so that everyone had time to shine in the two-part Avengers movie. Though it definitely does make sense, it's going to be a long wait till we get to see Avengers 4.

Avengers: Infinity War is currently screening in cinemas.
