Avengers 4 Fan Theory Suggests Captain Marvel May Have Died Thanks To Thanos’ Massacre

A lot of Marvel fans might be expecting Brie Larson's Captain Marvel to come swooping in to kick Thanos' butt in Avengers 4, but a new fan theory suggests that Carol Danvers might have also died along with the Avengers and Guardians of the Galaxy when Thanos snapped his fingers in Avengers: Infinity War.

According to a new theory being put forward online, Marvel fans might be all hyped up for Captain Marvel's arrival in the MCU, but Avengers 4 may have very little to do with Carol Danvers.

Instead, this new theory posted by ChovvyChofChop on Reddit suggests that the Infinity War sequel will put the spotlight on the original Avengers, and that includes Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), Captain America (Chris Evans), Thor (Chris Hemsworth), Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) and of course, Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner).

While fans are expecting to travel back in time watching Captain Marvel, a comic book movie set in the 90s, this new theory suggests that fans are going to see Carol Danvers turn into dust during the end-credits scene of her movie right after she receives that paged message by Nick Fury at the end of Infinity War.

"This sets up more hype for Avengers 4 and subverts audience expectations as everyone is expecting Captain Marvel to swoop into Avengers 4 and save the day," the Marvel fan explains in his Reddit post.

It does make sense. Joe and Anthony Russo are a team of directors that enjoy breaking expectations, and fans have been gushing on and on about Captain Marvel saving the day in Avengers 4. Not only would this subvert fan expectations, but it would allow the original Avengers to take the lead in the movie – something that Marvel might want since the film is the culmination of the Avengers' 10 years in the MCU.
