Netflix has made it official today that the Avatar: The Last Airbender live-action series is returning for a second and third season with the latter being its last.

It will mirror the original animated series which also ran for three seasons. However, it is still unknown whether each season will also consist of eight episodes.

According to Deadline's report, the producers are planning to film the two seasons in close succession given that the child actors are growing up quickly.

While promoting the series prior to its release, the cast expressed their hope to do more seasons.

"Always leave the audience wanting more. I just had chills seeing Lizzy as Azula," Paul Sun-Hyung Lee, who plays Uncle Iron, told Tudum.

"You’ve got King Bumi in shackles, and it’s just like, 'Oh, there’s so many cliffhangers.’ I was like, ‘Oh, I want to shoot Season 2, 3 right now.'"

Executive producer and director Jabbar Raisani told Deadline that there were scenes that they weren't able to shoot in the first season that they would like to explore in the next season.

"If we get another season, then we will certainly have those things, because I know what we missed now and I know how to do better the second time around. The animated series is a really good guide... for where the show can go," he said.

Fortunately for everyone involved in the series, their wishes are now coming true as we have a confirmation that it will return for more seasons.

The first season of Avatar: The Last Airbender is available to stream on Netflix.
