Anthony Mackie Says He Won't Be The New Captain America In The Falcon And The Winter Soldier

It was already confirmed in Avengers: Endgame that Sam Wilson is taking over as Captain America in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, Anthony Mackie has somehow confirmed that his character isn't going to take on the name just yet.

Mackie and his Endgame co-star Sebastian Stan were recently in attendance at D23 Expo 2019 to promote their new series The Falcon and The Winter Soldier which will air on Disney+. While speaking with Variety, Mackie confirmed that Sam isn't going to take the name 'Captain America' in the upcoming show.

"I am The Falcon, I will always be The Falcon. The moniker will stay the same," he said.

Of course, this doesn't mean that Mackie isn't going to be wearing the Captain America suit while carrying the iconic shield that Steve Rogers passed on to Sam in Endgame. It was previously confirmed at San Diego Comic-Con that Mackie has already been fitted and could put on the suit by the end of The Falcon and The Winter Soldier.

Although Mackie, Stan, and Captain America: Civil War actor Daniel Bruhl were initially the only Marvel Cinematic Universe stars who were confirmed to appear in the show, there have been new updates at D23. It was revealed that Emily VanCamp will reprise her role as Sharon Carter. In addition to that, Overlord star Wyatt Russell has been cast as John Walker/US Agent.

The Falcon and The Winter Soldier has not yet been given an official release date although it is expected to air on Disney+ in Fall 2020.
