American Gods Gets 10 New Character Posters

Starz's adaptation of American Gods is barely a month away, and marketing is already kicking in full swing for the series. Now we get ten new character posters featuring all of the players for Neil Gaiman's bestseller, from Shadow Moon (Ricky Whittle) to Mr. World (Crispin Glover).

Other characters who get the spotlight at Mr. Wednesday (Ian McShane), Laura (Emily Browning), Bilquis (Yetide Badaki), Mr. Nancy (Orlando Jones), Mad Sweeney (Pablo Schreiber), Technical Boy (Bruce Langley), Easter (Kristin Chenowith), and Czernobog (Peter Stormare).

Sadly, not all the gods in the series got their own individual poster. Cloris Leachman also plays another old god, Zorya Vechernyaya, and Gillian Anderson plays the Goddess of Media. Guess we'll just have to wait for the series to premiere to get better looks at them.

I'm so excited to see how Bryan Fuller adapts American Gods. Judging by his work on Hannibal, he's pretty good at handling visual poetry, and the novel was just chock-full of it. Hopefully we get to see a lot of the other gods that appeared in the book. Oddly enough, there's very little of Jesus in the book, and I thought he would a main player — he's an old god who still gets a lot of love and attention that the other gods craved. According to the wiki, Jesus will have multiple ethnicities in the series, spanning from an Asian Jesus to Mexican Jesus. Isn't that neat?

When Shadow Moon is released from prison, he meets the mysterious Mr. Wednesday and a storm begins to brew. Little does Shadow know, this storm will change the course of his entire life. Left adrift by the recent, tragic death of his wife, and suddenly hired as Mr. Wednesday's bodyguard, Shadow finds himself in the center of a world that he struggles to understand. It's a world where magic is real, where the Old Gods fear both irrelevance and the growing power of the New Gods, like Technology and Media. Mr. Wednesday seeks to build a coalition of Old Gods to defend their existence in this new America, and reclaim some of the influence that they've lost. As Shadow travels across the country with Mr. Wednesday, he struggles to accept this new reality, and his place in it.

American Gods premieres on Sunday, April 30 at 9 p.m. on Starz.
