Alien: Covenant VR Experience is Just a Scary and Disgusting

Perhaps part of the scares that come with the Alien franchise is the creepy unknown of what you can find in an about-to-burst alien pod.

While Alien: Covenant is about to give us more of this, another arm of the franchise will give us a different perspective. Dubbed as Alien: Covenant In Utero, this new project is meant to give viewers the experience of seeing everything unfold from the eyes of the alien.

According to Variety, the project will be a two-minute 360-degree video meant for the Oculus Rift and Samsung Gear VR. Technically, this VR accompaniment was supposed to be a promotion material for Alien: Covenant. However, it's easy to see how it's an impressive piece of work that goes far beyond just a mere add-on for more marketing content.

Alien: Covenant In Utero is directed by David Karlak. What's more impressive about the project is that it uses CGI assets from the production, providing the first foray of Fox in the world of virtual reality from the Alien franchise.

"For me, it was about giving the audience an element of wish fulfillment. We've always been on the receiving end of the violence."

Since AMD is also a partner in the project, this will allow more viewers to check out In Utero through other devices like mobile and tethered VR platforms once Alien: Covenant hits theaters.

Alien: Covenant In Utero will be released on the mentioned VR platforms exclusively on April 26.
