Alien: Covenant Director Wants This Resurrection to Happen

One of the buzziest titles in sci-fi groups is the very interesting and very gory Alien: Covenant. Considering the alien-bursting-out-your-back scenes, it seems that director Ridley Scott is set to take the franchise back into its glory days from back then.

However, that may not be the only franchise to see a comeback. Scott's other hit movie, Gladiator, may just see its main man Maximus resurrect, quite literally, from the dead, as Entertainment Weekly reported.

"I know how to bring him back. I was having this talk with the studio—‘but he's dead.' But there is a way of bringing him back. Whether it will happen I don't know. gladiator was 2000, so Russell's changed a little bit. He's doing something right now but I'm trying to get him back down here."

This will obviously be an interesting development to watch out for. Gladiator is essentially a complete film, and everyone knows that it's one of those films that already did so well as a standalone. It already has five Oscar wins, including Best Actor and Best Picture. Even Scott was nominated for Best Director. It did well in the box office as well, considering its time, as it had earned over $457 million.

So the question here, really, is how will this happen? Scott wants to bring back Crowe into mix and this is supposed to be a sequel. Unless we're going the sci-fi route—Alien: Covenant may do well in theaters, after all—it would take some insane writing to get this into gear.

In the meantime, fans can look forward to Alien: Covenant, starring Michael Fassbender, Katherine Waterston, Danny McBride, Billy Crudrup, Demian Bichir, and James Franco. It will be out in theaters on May 18.
