Adam Driver Clarifies his 'Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back' Comparison

Adam Driver wants to clarify his previous comment comparing the upcoming sequel to Star Wars: The Force Awakens to Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back,Vanity Fair reports. Driver played Kylo Ren in the Force Awakens and as such is part of the upcoming Star Wars: Episode VIII. He's been teasing what he knows about the new film.

In a previous interview with Collider Magazine, Driver stated about the Episode VIII script: "It's great. It's similar to how The Empire Strikes Back has a different tone. For that people always go "oooh, it's dark" but I don't know that it necessarily is. It's just different in tone in a way that I think is great and necessary but also very clear."

Now Driver feels the internet has read far too much into his comparison and clarifies his comments in his Vanity Fair interview. "What I said was the tone of it was different, I didn't say that it was gonna be in the vein of [The Empire Strikes Back]—I was using it as an example, so poor example. Next time I should say—I'm trying to think of another sequel to a movie that's good. When I read the script, it was not what I expected, in the best of ways."

Driver has to choose his words very carefully so as not to reveal any small tidbit about the movie. According to Vanity Fair, he didn't even feel comfortable answering whether the script "blew him away" because he throught fans might infer something from the phrasing.
