Way of the Househusband Gets New Live-Action Film: Synopsis, Premiere, and More

For those who can’t get enough of the live-action series of the popular manga Way of the Househusband, we have some good news as Sony Pictures Entertainment confirms that the series will have a live-action film! Toichiro Ruto returns from the live-action series to be the upcoming film’s director.

The film is slated to premiere in Japan next summer. No word for screenings outside of Japan as of press time.

The cast members from the live-action series that premiered in October 2020 will be reprising their roles. Tamaki Shiratori will play Himawari, Naoto Takenaka will play Kikujirō Eguchi, Izumi Inamori will play Ibari, Yuta Furukawa will play Sakai, Sadogashima will be played by Junpei Yasui, Tina Tamashiro will play Yukari, Michiko Tanaka will play Ota, and MEGUMI will play Tanaka.

The Way of the Househusband manga was launched in February 2018 on the Kurage Bunch website. VIZ Media licenses and publishes the manga in English, and the sixth volume was released in physical and digital on September 21. The popularity of the manga paved way for a live-action series. An anime adaptation premiered on the streaming platform Netflix on April 8, 2021, with five episodes. The second part premiered on October 7.

The manga is centered on the life of an average househusband who turned out to be a legendary yakuza named “the Immortal Dragon.” The yakuza legend has left his former ways behind to become your everyday househusband doing household chores and carefully preparing lunch for his kids. The series is a fantastic comedy manga that will keep you hooked. Although the original series and its live-action adaptation were a delight for the fans, many people had mixed opinions on its anime adaptation. Regardless of the polarizing views on this series, we can only hope that this live-action movie is worth looking forward to.
