Though he wasn't able to reprise his role as Superman in Shazam!, Henry Cavill is set to star in Netflix's adaptation of The Witcher. Production has been going on for a while, but we have confirmation that the show is definitely coming out later this year.
According to Variety, this was confirmed by Netflix CCO Ted Sarandos during an earnings call, and we should expect The Witcher to come to Netflix sometime between October to December. With Stranger Things coming out in July, I think a Halloween release could be the best release window.
Sarandos also had this to say about the show:
"… A big new original series that we're currently shooting in Hungary called ‘The Witcher,' that is an enormous European IP, very popular game and Book IP, that we think is going to make a really fun global series."
Though the most popular version of The Witcher is admittedly the game by CD Projekt Red, the original fantasy books come from Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski. Cavill himself has been cast as the lead Geralt of Rivia, and it's said that the series will be trying to stay closer to the original source material this time around.
Lauren S. Hissrich is currently the showrunner for Witcher, and the first season is expected to run for eight episodes, each running for an hour. We don't really know what to expect until we get our first trailer, which could come out before June.
No release date has been set for The Witcher, but the show is expected to come to Netflix this fall.
