Monogatari fans were finally treated to the next anime’s proper trailer. Along with new clips from the upcoming series, the new Monogatari Series: Off & Monster Season trailer also revealed the show’s July release date.
What’s also exciting is that this new trailer previewed the opening theme from YOASOBI, the music duo behind some of the most popular anime theme songs in recent years.
Given that this is the first new Monogatari anime in nearly five years, some fans may need a quick refresher on the series’ status.
All You Need to Know about the New Monogatari Season
Monogatari is a popular light novel series by Nisio Isin, and it has received anime series adaptations by Shaft (of RWBY: Ice Queendom and Madoka Magica fame).
Technically, the main Monogatari series story is over, as the Zoku Owarimonogatari serves as a proper finale to the anime.
In the light novels though, the series continued with new entries, including Off Season and Monster Season, which were released between 2015 and 2021.
These two light novel series will be adapted into the upcoming Monogatari Off & Monster Season anime, which will once again be animated by Shaft.
The Off Season part of the new anime will be set at various points in the Monogatari timeline, with some stories happening during Koyomi Araragi’s high school days while others happen later in the story.
Meanwhile, Monster Season takes place during Araragi’s college days, meaning it happens after the finale of Zoku Owarimonogatari.

Monogatari Series: Off & Monster Season Reveals July Release Date
Previously, the anime was revealed with a key visual, though there was no word on a release date. Finally, with the release of the new trailer, the Monogatari Series: Off & Monster Season anime has a July 6 release date.
As the anime was only confirmed to be in production recently, the summer 2024 premiere is a bit of a surprise, though it’s definitely welcome news for fans who have been waiting years for a new anime.
Monogatari Off & Monster Season Trailer Previews YOASOBI Opening Theme
As previously confirmed, the new season will feature the theme song Undead by YOASOBI, the music duo behind the Oshi no Ko and Frieren part 1 opening songs. This song was previewed in the anime’s trailer.
The trailer also confirmed that the voice cast members from the previous season are returning for this new anime.
For now, there’s no word on where the series will be streamed outside of Japan. Given that the previous seasons are available on Crunchyroll, chances are that Off & Monster Season will also be streamed there.
