It has been nearly three years since its announcement, and finally, The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim is getting a sneak peek at Annecy 2024 this June.
This will mark the first time that clips of the upcoming animated film will be revealed, though it’s not clear if the sneak peek will be shared online following its Annecy showcase.
What has been shared online is some new concept art for the film that not only hypes up its upcoming showcase but also gives fans a glimpse at what the series would look like.
Warner Bros. Animation Shares New Concept Art for Lord of the Rings Anime
War of the Rohirrim is an animated movie set 183 years before the Lord of the Rings movie trilogy. From the looks of it though, there will be some familiar sights.
To start, one of the new concept art shared by IndieWire features a warrior who seems to be standing in front of Helm’s Deep.
That’s because this film will follow Helm Hammerhand, the king of Rohan for whom Helm’s Deep was named.
The next concept art piece features a massive army near the capital of Edoras.
Finally, the last artwork shows a battle involving the elephant-like mumakil.
Given the new concept art, the upcoming movie should feature a lot of action that promises to delight long-time fans, especially given that it features a cast of legendary figures in the world.
There is one returning character from the original trilogy, and that is Eowyn. To be exact, Miranda Otto returns to voice Eowyn who will serve as the film’s narrator.

What to Expect at Lord of the Rings: War of the Rohirrim’s Annecy Sneak Peek
It’s not clear if Otto will narrate the sneak peek, as there aren’t many details shared so far regarding the War of the Rohirrim showcase at the Annecy Film Festival, which is happening from June 9 to 15.
What is confirmed is that the Annecy presentation will be the first time that footage from the film will be shown in public. As mentioned in a report by Variety, tickets for the show will also be limited.
The presentation will be attended by Philippa Boyens, the film’s producer who also co-wrote the screenplays of the Lord of the Rings trilogy.
She will be joined by director Kenji Kamiyama and producer Joseph Chou from Sola Entertainment (of Ninja Kamui fame).
Finally, Gollum’s iconic actor Andy Serkis will also appear in the Annecy sneak peek, though it’s not clear if he’s part of the film’s cast.

When Is the War of the Rohirrim Anime Going to Be Released?
Following the Annecy presentation, it’s likely that a trailer will be released after, especially given that the film is set to be released in theaters on December 13, 2024.
Originally, the film was set to premiere in April this year, though its release was delayed due to the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strike.
