You is finally back on Netflix for its fourth season. When we last left the show, Joe Goldberg (played by Penn Badgley) was on his way to look for Marienne Bellamy (played by Tati Gabrielle), who left in a hurry to start a new life in Paris with her daughter. Since Joe never got to talk to Marienne, he wasn't able to say goodbye to her.
And ever since the show has been confirmed to return for a fourth season, it has been anticipated that Joe would be making his way to Paris to look for Marienne. In the days leading up to the release, however, it was revealed that Joe has assumed a new identity in London as Professor Jonathan Moore. The season four set photos and trailers also hinted at an entirely new cast. This makes fans wonder if Joe ever gets to locate Marienne in You Season 4.
Now that the show is out, we've got the answers. If you haven't started catching up on the show, be warned that this post contains spoilers.
Does Joe Find Marienne in You Season 4?
On the first episode of You Season 4 Part 1, it is hinted that something *bad* might have happened to Marienne. This is because Joe pulls out her heart locket necklace from his pocket. We know that it's her because her picture and her daughter's is inside it. The big question is, how did Joe acquire the necklace? Did he have it all this time since You Season 3?
As he looks at it, he does a monologue:
"I do miss having someone out there, someone worth watching. A puzzle worth watching. You, but missing you won't bring you back."
Then we get to see a series of flashbacks related to Joe's quest to looking for his lady love.
In the first flashback, Joe can be seen checking out numerous paintings at a park in Paris. One day, he chances upon a painting of Marienne's daughter and instantly recognizes it from one of her previous work. He asks the seller about the artist and he is informed that she has gone to London to attend an art fair.
Did Marienne and Joe Get Back Together?
In another flashback, we learn that Joe manages to track down Marienne in a street market in London. Upon seeing him, however, she panics and flees into an abandoned warehouse.
When he manages to trap her in the staircase, she pulls out a small knife and asks him if he murdered her ex-husband, Ryan, and Love. Joe explains why he had to kill Ryan but Marienne doesn't believe him. She asks if there were other murders and he stays silent.
To prove to her that he doesn't plan on killing her, he steps aside and lets Marienne escape. When she does, we learn that a hitman has actually been following Marienne in the hopes of finding Joe.
The hitman, Elliot Tannerburg (played by Adam James), works for the Quinn family but approaches Joe for a trade. He explains that he wishes to stop killing people and get Love's money.
In exchange, he gives Joe a new identity (aka Professor Jonathan Moore) and promises he will tell the Quinn family that he is dead. But in order to do that, Joe needs to kill the last person who knows he is still alive-- Marienne.
Does Joe Kill Marienne in You Season 4 Part 1?
Elliot tells Joe that Marienne will be leaving back to Paris on a train. Joe follows Marienne and steals her necklace to send to Elliot as proof that she is dead.
As he sends the photo of her necklace, we see Marienne saddened over the loss of her necklace as she prepares to board her train.
And this is the last we see her throughout the first part of the show.
Will Marienne Be In You Season 4 Part 2?
Since the entire season 4 of You is still not available to stream, many can't help but think Marienne will return in the next part. It's possible that Elliot has taken care of her himself after seeing that Joe didn't exactly do the job.
Another possible reason for her return is that she'll believe Joe and she'll fall right back into his arms. But there's also the possibility that she won't be returning at all and that is the end of her storyline.
We'll have to wait until the show returns in March 9, 2023 to know more about what happens to Marienne. In the meantime, here's a recap of what happened in You Season 3:
