Kadokawa is already a big name in anime, but the company is showing no signs of slowing down its expansion plans. After detailing plans for a new studio a few months ago, Kadokawa today announced the opening of its new anime studio Bellnox Films.

Details about the new studio were shared on the Kadokawa Group’s official website.

While there were no specific projects laid out, the announcement did reveal some interesting details, including the new studio’s veteran president.

Kadokawa is a Japanese media conglomerate that began as a publishing company. Since its founding back in 1945, Kadokawa has become a big player in many Japanese media industries.

Over the years, Kadokawa has become one of Japan’s biggest producers of anime. In fact, Kadokawa has a hand in a lot of spring 2024 titles, including shows such as Train to the End of the World.

Many of Kadokawa’s anime are based on light novels or manga that are published by one of the group’s many publishing arms. This is the case with titles such as Delicious in Dungeon and KonoSuba.

Interestingly, Kadokawa is also involved in the production of shows that are based on manga that aren’t published by Kadokawa.

For instance, Kadokawa is part of the production committee for the Oblivion Battery and Oshi no Ko anime adaptations. Both these shows are based on manga that are published by Shueisha.

Even though Kadokawa is already one of the biggest players in anime production, the company is keen on expanding its footprint through in-house studios.

As the company revealed back in November, there were plans to establish a new studio to improve Kadokawa’s capabilities to create more shows.

Earlier today, the new studio was officially revealed, and it is called Bellnox Films.

This is the fifth studio in the group following the in-house ENGI, Studio KADAN, and Raging Bull, with Kinema Citrus being an affiliated studio.

The studio’s reveal also confirmed that the studio will start operations on July 1, 2024. Also revealed is the studio’s president, Koji Kajita.

He may not be as well-known as anime directors, but Koji Kajita is an anime industry veteran as he has worked as the head of Gonzo and the president and co-founder of david production.

Over the years, Kajita has worked as a producer on lots of well-known shows, including JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, Cells at Work!, and Fire Force.

For now, there’s no word yet on what the studio’s first project will be. Given that its operations will start in July, we’ll probably need to wait until 2025 to find out what its first anime will be.
