Aquaman 2: Patrick Wilson Teases Orm’s Importance to Arthur’s Story

Patrick Wilson may have been Nite Owl in Watchmen, but he's entered the DCEU in the form of Aquaman's brother Orm. Unlike many comic book villains, Orm makes it out alive in the end of the film, and Wilson himself is convinced they won't kill off his character.

Talking to SYFY Wire, Wilson explains,"I don't know what the future holds for Orm … You can't kill him. He's too important to [Arthur's] journey … he's a foil to [his character]."

Wilson doesn't confirm his involvement with the sequel yet, but he does go on to say that he's sure that the main villain won't be him. He continues:

"[Orm is] not gonna be a main villain in another movie. I don't think Orm ends up in Belle Reve like he does in the New 52. I assume they're gonna keep. him in some kind of jail below the surface. If [James] wants me back, I'm certainly happy to come back."

If you've watched the first film, you'll know that the after-credits teases a clash with Black Manta in the sequel. Despite Orm's status, Manta has always been the arch-nemesis of Aquaman in the comics, and he's also the one responsible for cutting off his hand, forcing Arthur to get a hook hand—or possible that magical water hand. Either way, I'm convinced Aquaman is getting maimed one way or another.

For now, the sequel for Aquaman is set to come out in 2022. It's admittedly a long wait away, but there has to be some kind of pressure on the follow-up to one of the biggest films of 2018.

Catch Aquaman 2 in theaters Dec. 16, 2022.
