The recently-released final trailer for X-Men '97 featured a joke that poked fun at the costumes in the Fox live-action movies.

The series has been well-received by many fans since its premiere last March due to being a satisfying continuation of the original series and its impressive storytelling and animation style.

It has also received praise for being faithful to the source material since the character design is similar to the comics, unlike the live-action movies which introduced a different costume and style for the team.

X-Men '97 Final Trailer Takes Shot at the Live-Action Movies

Marvel Studios recently released the final trailer for X-Men '97 which gave fans a brief glimpse of what they can expect in the last three episodes of the first season.

Towards the end, they featured a scene that seemingly poked fun at the costumes in the live-action Fox X-Men movies.

During the brief scene, Cyclops gives Cable an official X-Men costume. Cable expressed his dissatisfaction with the costume as he compared it to a "circus" outfit.

Cyclops replied with, "What did you expect? Black leather?"

Fans immediately assumed that Cyclops' line was in reference to the black leather X-Men uniform in the original Fox live-action films, which didn't follow the traditional costumes in the comics.

Fortunately, it looks like Marvel Studios is now embracing the traditional costumes in the comics as we've seen with the upcoming film Deadpool and Wolverine which will see Hugh Jackman finally wear a comic-accurate Wolverine costume.

We can assume at this point that it will be the case for the MCU version of the X-Men when they get introduced in the future as they are now more willing to embrace the traditional roots.

New episodes of X-Men '97 premiere every Wednesday on Disney+.
