Wind Breaker is a yanki action anime with characters sporting badass looks from head to toe. From driving shoes to kung-fu shoes, have you noticed the different types of shoes every Wind Breaker character wears?

Interestingly, Wind Breaker emphasizes the characters’ taste in shoes, which reflects their personality and style.

What Shoes Do They Use in Wind Breaker?

There are a lot of characters in Wind Breaker, from the Bofurin students to Shishitoren’s members. They have so many differences from each other, but they all share the passion to become stronger than anybody else.

Part of these differences is the characters’ taste in shoes, as shown in both the anime and manga series.

Based on the omake (extra/bonus) chapter in the manga, here is every Wind Breaker character’s taste in shoes:

Haruka Sakura’s High-Tech Sneakers

Haruka Sakura has a thing for high-tech sneakers, which have cushioning technologies.

In real life, Haruka would choose brands with air cushioning or boost technology that offers comfortable support for various activities, especially fighting.

When it comes to outfits, Haruka tends to wear plain white shirts to match his slim-fit pants and high-tech sneakers.

He owns five white shirts and he likes to keep it simple, sometimes wearing a mountain jacket as his outerwear.

Akihiko Nirei’s Leather Shoes

Despite his energetic and cheerful personality, Nirei likes to wear leather shoes more than anything else. He even prefers to wear it over sneakers, unlike other students in Bofurin.

To complete his outfit, Nirei often wears hats and sunglasses, with button-down colored thrifted shirts with no loud, ruffian patterns like what he wore on his first day in Bofurin.

He also loves to accompany his look with roll-up pants!

Kyotaro Sugishita’s Low-Tech Sneakers

Kyotaro Sugishita is truly the complete opposite of Haruka Sakura, who prefers to wear high-tech sneakers.

Our long-haired protagonist loves to wear simple, low-tech sneakers that have traditional basic construction, minimal cushioning, and so on.

He also has a lot of colored shirts in his closet that don’t have prints or embroidery because he feels they’re stiff. He also dislikes wearing tight clothes, unlike Sakura, who prefers slim-fit pants.

Hayato Suo’s Kung-Fu Shoes

Uniquely, Hayato Suo prefers wearing kung-fu shoes made from cloth that is soft to the touch.

After all, he likes to incorporate Chinese elements into his style, from his antique earrings to his Chinese-styled clothing made from hemp and silk.

Hayato often completes his entire look with loose pants, which makes it incredibly comfortable for him.

Toma Hiragi’s Shoes with Pointed Tips

Toma Hiragi likes to keep his pointed shoes waxed all the time. He is a man of good taste who prefers leather pants to match his flashy taste in shoes.

When not in his uniform, Hiragi likes to wear close-fitting band T-shirts, accessorized by silver chains and necklaces. He’s also a fan of cologne!

Hajime Umemiya’s Driving Shoes

Hajime Umemiya is still young, but his taste in shoes makes him look like a father or an uncle to Bofurin students.

He prefers the casual type of driving shoes to any other sneakers, going so far as to wear them to school or whenever he’s fighting.

Word has it that Umemiya is so indifferent about his clothes and doesn’t put a lot of thought into his everyday looks, which are unbefitting of his position in Bofurin.

Kota Sako’s Side Gore Boots

Side Gore boots are also known as Chelsea Boots, with elastic side panels and typically low heels. This is Kota Sako’s taste in shoes, flashier than any other character in Wind Breaker.

He has an eye for fashion, preferring to wear turtlenecks, either full-sleeves or three-quarter sleeves, even during the summer. He also wears a watch to complete his look.

Jo Togame’s Sandals

Unlike the other characters, Togame prefers to wear sandals because they’re not only simple but also comfortable and easy to wear.

He has a traditional fashion sense, going so far as to own monk-like clothes and sweat clothes. He also spends his time going to public baths, where he can play go and shogi with elderly men.

Choji Tomiyama’s Sneakers

As expected, Choji Tomiyama is into sneakers. He has a playful personality, like a child running here and there, so sneakers would be the perfect shoes for him.

In addition to sneakers, Choji also likes wearing t-shirts, going so far as to hoard them in his closet because he loses things easily. He also prefers buying denim, chinos, jerseys, and tight-fitted pants.
