It has been over a year since the series entered into its latest hiatus, but fans may be in for a treat soon. Recently, series creator Yoshihiro Togashi shared new updates that teased the Hunter x Hunter manga’s potential return.
As is the case in 2022, Togashi shared new updates again on his personal X (formerly Twitter) account. These updates are again images of drafts for what are presumably the next manga chapters.
With this, fans are hoping that the manga will return soon, hopefully as early as later this year.
Yoshihiro Togashi Shares New Update after Half a Year
Hunter x Hunter is a popular shonen manga series that began way back in 1998. In its early years, the series was serialized regularly in Shonen Jump, with only a couple of week-long breaks.
This changed in 2006 as the series entered a long hiatus. Since then, Hunter x Hunter has gone on hiatus for lengthy periods, with the longest one being nearly four years long.
These breaks are due to Togashi’s health, as the legendary manga author has been suffering from chronic back issues for years now.
In May 2022, Togashi opened an official Twitter account where he shared updates on the series. Later that year, the series returned for 10 weeks.
Since the last chapter was released in January 2023, the manga has not gotten any new updates. Now though, Togashi shared another series of updates on X, indicating that he’s working on the next chapters.
This should mean the hiatus will end sometime soon, with new chapters potentially getting released in Shonen Jump and Manga Plus.

Back in 2022, Togashi shared his first updates in May. The series then returned in November of that year.
Given that Togashi’s latest updates were also shared in May, if the timeline of how he works is consistent, it might mean we’ll get new chapters later in 2024.
Of course, this is just conjecture based on the previous pattern. After all, given how tough it is for Togashi to work on the series given his back issues, the new chapters may take longer to finish.
When it does return, chances are we’ll get another 10 chapters. This is because Togashi has released a volume’s worth of chapters every time he returns from hiatus.
If that’s the case, another volume release should also be on the cards at some point.
