FX and Hulu recently announced that two more new seasons of Shogun are officially in the works in the aftermath of the show's massive success.

The historical drama based on the James Clavell novel has become one of the most acclaimed TV series this year as it received glowing responses from both audiences and critics throughout its ten-episode run.

While the first season has already covered the entire novel, there have been questions about whether the series will go beyond the source material or if it will stay as a limited series.

According to reports, FX and Hulu have announced that seasons 2 and 3 of Shogun are officially in the works following the success of the first season.

It should be noted, however, that this is not yet a formal renewal and a decision will be made once the creative team has come up with a plan. No production schedule has also been set.

The writers' room will open this summer where they will explore ideas on how they will extend the story beyond the Clavell novel.

Showrunners Justin Marks and Rachel Kodo, executive producer Michaela Clavell, and star/executive producer Hiroyuki Sanada are all involved in the development.

It has also been confirmed that the series is officially submitted in the drama series categories for Primetime Emmy Awards consideration.

In a recent thread on X, Marks addressed the news and shared that they were already exploring ideas to extend the series while the first season was being made.

He and Kondo are set to travel to Japan as part of their research on the potential ideas for the second season.

For the past few weeks, there have been speculations that FX is planning a second season of Shogun as it was reported that Sanada signed an "if-come" deal in case the network decides to greenlight the new season.

Now, it is official that FX is eyeing to do more seasons and it would be interesting to see whether it does come to fruition in the future once the creative team has come up with a plan.
